Right away the teacher, Mrs. R, had the class participating in writing and reading activities. I absolutely love learning about new ideas for lessons and how to make crafts in order to make learning fun. When the kids are doing instead of watching, it is so much better and that is exactly what Mrs. R has her students participate.
The first writing activity was called the "Line Activity." First, the teacher reads the book, "It Looked Like Spilt Milk" and afterwards, "Not a Box" where everyday objects can be looked at in so many different ways. So the activity was for the students to receive a piece of paper with a random line (squiggly, curvy; any kind of line) and they are to create a picture including the line. After they draw a picture, they write a sentence or short paragraph about the picture (a story or a description).
Line Drawing
Other activities involve reviewing Nouns and Verbs as well as getting ideas for writing from ones own interests.
Writing Ideas
These first few days have been great! I am hoping to keep up with the notes I am taking and keep learning. Even though I am not actually teaching the lessons, I am content (so far) with walking around, answering questions, and reading the chapter book aloud to them. I should have stories up soon! BUT here are some more examples of what we have been up to...
Place Value
More fun to come! :D
